Ultrasound

Ultrasound, also called sonography, is a test that uses sound waves without radiation to produce images of the organs in your body.

Ultrasound sound waves bounce off tissue inside the body and reveals anatomy and abnormalities. The ultrasound computer uses this information to produce images of the body.

In addition, most soft tissue organs can be studied with ultrasound. The gallbladder can be scanned for gallstones. The kidneys, liver and pancreas can be studied for tumors, cysts or cancer. Blood vessels can be observed for swelling or blockage.

Preparation for an Ultrasound:

• If you are having an abdominal ultrasound, do not eat or drink 8 hours prior to the study.

• For all other ultrasound studies, you will be given instructions by our staff.
